Eskom and Sasol Have Signed A Gas-For-Power MoU Agreement

Eskom and energy and chemical business, Sasol, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to "collaboratively explore and research prospective potential liquified natural gas (LNG) requirements".
This is according to a joint statement by the two organizations, following the signing ceremony of the MoU on Friday.
"The collaboration aims to find out the likely volumes that South Africa needs to ascertain a feasible LNG import current market, together with the enabling infrastructure, and may be facilitated by govt-to-governing administration relations where required."
"This initiative focuses on utilizing gas for power generation to deliver necessary base load energy and position gas to be a crucial enabler of re-industrialisation, though also guaranteeing continued supply to the marketplace by unlocking global LNG resources.

The MoU is expected to "explore sourcing gas within South Africa, the Southern African Development Community region, and other parts of the African continent, in addition to evaluating long-term LNG contracting".
